PC  Repair @  Compunet Systems

Computer repair services at Compunet Systems is a clear and understandable process with everything explained in plain English, we have provided repair services for over 17 years right back from the times of DOS and the first versions of Windows for Work groups, with a wealth of experience including not just home personal computers but we have worked in big data centers too which allows us to bring a wealth of information to ensure your back up and running as quick as possible.

Is your business requiring a fast, efficient and professional repair service for your workstations, Laptops and Servers then look below for an outline to our pricing structure.

We have created some helpful articles below on common issues with a brief outline of cause and solutions; in addition there are a couple on common terminologies with brief explanations.

My Computer turns on but doesn’t start windows?

I have listed the two more common reasons the normal user would experience this below:

1) The computer lights up and the screen turns on but it doesn’t finish loading theirs a message saying:

The ERROR
“No System Disk found, please insert system disk and press any key to continue.”

The Cause
This happens normally when the Operating System Set hard disk is either malfunctioning or the bios settings have been misconfigured like the Operating System drive is no longer set as such.
.
Possible Fixes
To check the bios settings first to ensure the correct drive is set as the operating system drive and if the drive is not identified in the BIOS then try to run the auto scan on the correct channel / drive if no drive is found then it would seem that a possible cause is the drive is malfunctioning possibly the IDE controller on the back of the drive has failed.

2) The computer says starting windows and it loops, like I just turned it on again:

The ERROR
No Error, the system just does not load Windows it just restarts its self in a loop.

The Cause
This can happen when a update has failed to install correctly and fails to roll back another common cause is when a operating system file becomes corrupted by either hard drive failed write or a virus has damaged it.
.
Possible Fixes
First is over the past couple of weeks have you noticed the check disk screen appear during boot up and if so has it been rebuilding any indexes, lost files, chains or blocks if so then it looks like the drive is possibly failing still try the fix as it should help get it going again but immediately after boot up go to the event viewer and check for any failed writes to the hard disk warnings this would mean your hard disk is on its way out so time to backup immediately would be recommended.
Second is last time the computer was used was it installing updates before the issue started, it is possible a file become corrupt while the update was downloaded and now it’s causing this.
Third is a virus could of damaged the file while it was doing its thing.
To get computer back up and running for further analysis, turn on the computer and wait for the bios screen to disappear and any Raid, NIC adaptors to finish displaying post messages and just before windows starts a black screen is presented very briefly, here you need to press the f8 key to access the boot menu options, select the option to first try last known good configuration, if this fails then try the option for safe mode, check the event viewer for possible leads and if required remove update and reinstall update after reboot, if drive check for errors mentioned above and if required backup and if none apply run a antivirus program to check for any possible virus.

My Computer takes a long time to start it’s so slow?

The computer works but is so slow now; it was a lot faster doing the same stuff when I got it.

The PROBLEM
Computers slow down after time, there are many reasons for this but the most common causes are software pre launchers that are installed when installing the software.

The Cause
When a user install a program, some programs to increase their execution or startup time of that program from when Windows is loaded they install a pre launcher, but the problem is we don’t always use them programs so were waiting extra time for the computer to turn on and off when we don’t have to.
.
Possible Fixes
We can tell Windows not to run these pre launchers which don’t remove the programs or stop them working when double clicked on / run, by not running these pre launchers and thus improving the speed of boot times and freeing up RAM memory for better performance. To do this click the start button and click run, type “msconfig” then on the window that appears go to the tab labelled startup, you can remove most of the programs but don’t remove any of the antivirus software, drivers applications or wanted applications then click apply and click ok, next time you reboot your computer a message will appear informing you that some of the startup items have been disabled, put a check in the don’t remind me again box and click ok.

What is a Operating System, Hard Disk, CPU and PSU?

Operating System

A Operating System is the software the runs the computer, there are various around but the most commonly known are the Microsoft brand with Windows (3.1,95,98,Milliniuem,XP,Vista,7,8,10) and Linux (RedHat, Slackware, CentOS and many more) its purpose is to control the access, formats, control of data and system devices including things like logging events and more, in Windows the file manager is called explorer, Microsoft extended on this name for their internet browser hence Internet Explorer, but when you access a CD from your computer it’s the operating system or OS as its also called that controls the device and request the data that it then stores in to a memory location if required for further processing but the OS also governs task like setting memory for an application to run.

Hard Disk Drive

This is a piece of hardware inside your computer also known as a fixed disk you can also get travel / backup hard drives that connect via USB,eSata or firewire (IE1394). It is a fixed capacity storage device and stores data like the Operating System and user files, they normally have large capacities nowadays of excess 100 gigabytes, the internal drives come in these interface types IDE, SATA, SAS and SCSI recently hard drives have had a upgrade and now come in solid state variety’s (no moving parts), were as in times past they were predominately mechanical that is they had a disk platter that was spinning at between 5600 and 16000 rpm (revolutions per minute) with a electromagnetic head used for reading and writing data to the magnetic platter.

CPU

The main factor to how fast your computer is, well how fast it can process data is the microprocessor this is the CPU or central processing unit, it has the major factor on how fast your computer will do a task, also amount of memory the computer has will also have a large effect too. But if your processors not happy then your computer can just switch off, this can be caused by overheating that’s why checking your computers air vent once in a while is a good idea and clearing any dust found as dust can clog up and blog the fans air flow allowing overheating to occur.

PSU

This the computers power supply unit, it is used to convert the AC from the mains to DC and lower the voltage to around 12V and importantly smooth the voltage so its compatible with the computer. If your computer does not power on or show any sign off life no lights or sounds, and you have checked the fusses then it is more than likely this is the problem.

My Computer got a virus what should I do?

First and foremost address the problem immediately as until you know what virus it is you don’t know what it’s doing from possibly encrypting your personal files so you can’t open them to possibly logging keystrokes for passwords or credit card data.

This is why Antivirus programs have become an essential part of everyday computing, protecting you and your confidential information by keeping it safe from virus infections that's why a high quality antivirus program is essential in safe guarding your data.

Next is to scan your computer with either the Antivirus that you have on your computer (make sure its been updated and any definitions / signature files are up to date as well), if the definitions / signatures files were out of date then this may probably explain how the virus got around the antivirus program as it was not recognised as a threat, but if they are up to date or you don’t have antivirus installed then you may need to use a more thorough scanner like Esets free Online scanner, use the instructions below and use Esets Online scanner to scan your computer now and help identify and remove any virus’s it finds.

Try Esets free online scanner solution to see if your antivirus is up to the job.

The scanner detects and removes malware with a powerful and user-friendly tool that uses the same ThreatSense® scanning technology and signatures as ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus - just by using your web browser.

Other Antivirus software needs to be disabled temporally while the scan runs.

Full details and system requirements for the online scanner can be found in the link below.

Instructions:

1. Read the instructions below first then click start button to goto the online scanner website or Open your browser and go to the link below this is the Eset website with the online scanner,

http://www.eset.co.uk/Antivirus-Utilities/Online-Scanner

2. Important, before you run the scan disable any free or other antivirus software, ( it is advisable not to have any other applications or websites open when you do the scan )

3. Click Start Scan and let the scan complete.

4. Get free scan and see how effective your current solution really is against malware.

5. Enable your antivirus software.

 Start

And finally is to find a good antivirus program, there are some free solutions I have heard about like using Avast or Malwarebytes with Microsoft Windows Bitdefender, but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for so I use Esets NOD32 which has kept my computers clean from virus’s even before I become a NOD32 Reseller.

We can provide your Nod32 Antivirus for your PC, Laptop, Server and or network call for more details and pricing.

What is a computer virus?

A computer virus is a malicious piece of code that’s purpose is to infect computers and spread itself to other computers where it repeats the process, if it be from reading your contacts list in your email and sending itself back out to scanning the network for other local machines it can exploit and download itself to for the purpose of repeating its infection process.

What is the difference between malware and a virus?

There is little difference as a virus is a piece of malware or malicious software which is a program that does things you don’t want it to do like Trojans, Worms, Loggers, Spyware, Adware and more, the term virus is a term of a type of malware that normally follows that type of tasks like infection, duplication and spreading or for a Trojan it infects and opens a backdoor to allow access to user files, remote viewing or remote access by a third party.

What is a update?

Updates are the manufactures / developers of the program releasing repaired / updated code that fixes a previous unidentified problem, some updates are for security purposes and others and can be for functionality improvements or even stability issues to name a couple of possibilities but it is recommended that updates are applied especially to the Operating Systems.
